Abstract (Max 200 words)
Purpose:
to evaluate normal choroidal thickness in terms of age and gender in Rasht city using SD-OCT EDI imaging.
Methods:
108 normal subjects aged over 20 years that living in Rasht were studied with systematic random sampling by using the city phone book.. The subjects in both eyes went under choroidal thickness measurements with software (version 5.4) HRA2-SD OCT EDI. Thickness measurements was made in center and until 3- mm away at 500 µm interval on both temporal and nasal sides. 16 SPSS statistical software was used for stastical analysis. Paired t test was used to evaluate the differences in different parts of the choroidal thickness . Pearson correlation test was used to determine the thickness difference in terms of age and also of P <0.05 was used for statistical significance.
Results:
: average central choroidal thickness was 290/5 ±81/5 and 296/4 ± 70/5 µm in Right and left eyes sequently with a mean age of 48/5±12 years . This rate in study population (RASHT ) is estimated 275-306 µm .
Sub-foveal choroidal thickness is the most and then dwindles on either 3-mm area but more severely decrease on nasal side (P <0.0001).
The average choroidal thickness in both eye in the center and the sides were equal and the there is no any significant difference.
Choroidal thickness in all measured areas was not significant difference in both sexes. Choroidal thickness at the center and 3-mm away , with increasing age was significantly decreased (p <0.05) . so , per 10 years increasing of age , 20 µm of choroidal thickness is decreased
Conclusion:
in this study ,The average central choroidal thickness is 290/5 ± 81/5 µm With an average age of 48/5±12 years. This rate, with a confidence interval of 95% in the study population (Rasht) estimated 306-275 µm.
